In between rounds the doctor examined the cut as Rodrigues’ corner worked hard to stem the bleeding and patch the nasty gash.
On the brink of the fight being stopped, the UFC doctor allowed the fight to continue and Rodrigues left fans in awe as he floored his opponent and claimed the TKO victory.
The win left fans and the commentary crew stunned as Daniel Cormier labelled it “one of the worst cuts I’ve ever seen.”
“I know one thing, I’m born for this. You need to kill me. But alive or dead, you’ll come with me. I’m a RoboCop. I’ll say one thing, I love you Jesus,” Rodrigues said after the fight.
UFC star Maraya Agapova was left foaming at the mouth as she tried to fight off a rear-naked choke against Gillian Robertson.
In the second round of the fight, Robertson got the ground to the mat and swiftly took Agapova’s back before locking in the choke.
The scary scenes commenced as Agapova attempted to fight her way out, she spat her mouth guard out and began biting her tongue but it was all in vain as the lights were soon switched off.
Agapova was out cold before the referee officially stopped the fight with the flyweight fighter seen foaming at the moment as Robertson let go to celebrate the victory.
Agapova eventually came to and embraced her former training partner who with the win enhances her record of the most submissions wins in women’s UFC history.
“That did not look good. Maraya Agapova was biting her own tongue and essentially foaming at the mouth from the rear naked choke applied by Gillian Robertson,” MMA Fighting editor Damon Martin wrote.
MMA write Adam Martin wrote: “Gillian Robertson submits Mariya Agapova in the second round! That finish was absolutely savage.”
Robertson after the fight said she believed the fight should have been stopped far sooner than it actually was: “I thought she was out for a lot longer than he thought.”
Earlier in the card Damon Jackson took care of business against Pat Sabatini just days after the tragic death of his brother Bradley.
Jackson never considered withdrawing from the card and put on a show needing only 69 seconds to finish Sabatini with a TKO win.
A flush front kick sent Sabatini crumbling to the canvas before Jackson bombarded his rival with a flurry of punches that forced Sabatini to submit.
Jackson fell to the canvas with his head in his hands as the emotion of the week took over as the UFC cameras panned to his family members in the stands embracing in emotional scenes.
“It still doesn’t feel real yet,” Jackson told Daniel Cormier after the fight.
“It means a lot for me to come out here and compete. There was no chance of me not fighting.
“I never even second-guessed competing. I knew I had to do this. I knew I had to come out here and do what I always do. This is the only time I feel normal, is when I get to come out here and compete. All the emotion I’ve been holding back this whole week is kind of coming out right now. I never cried in front of a group of people. I just want to be around my mom and around my dad and see my family.”
