Seahawks receiver D.K. Metcalf shrugs off random drug test by NFL after viral video of insane leaping catch

The NFL’s random drug tests truly being random is one of the biggest running gags around the league, and that was further reinforced Sunday by Seahawks wide receiver D.K. Metcalf.

Heading into the weekend, a video went viral of Metcalf making an absolutely absurd leaping catch. Whether that may or may not have had some movie magic involved is difficult to tell.

It truly looked super man.

The video caught the attention of many, with 27 million views and counting.

One of those views was from popular Twitter account Shannon Sharpe’s burner, a parody account, which speculated a random drug test was on the way.

As it turns out, that’s exactly what happened.

There’s a nonzero chance Metcalf was shooting this as a stunt. In fact, the unedited clip of Metcalf’s jump has also circulated.

this the unedited one . DK Metcalf still impressive

Nevertheless, the viral nature of it made it impossible for the league to ignore.

Then again, the timing was also conspicuous in the sense Metcalf played in the NBA’s Celebrity All-Star Game this weekend and went on a dunking spree that ended in him winning the game’s MVP.

Whether the clip was altered or not, Metcalf’s athleticism (in any sport) is difficult to question.

There’s plenty of precedent for the NFL’s random drug tests being less than random. Odell Beckham Jr. had a random drug test after a huge performance against the Cardinals for the Rams, and Myles Garrett has been tested for just being too large in general.

Metcalf’s physique has been scrutinized since he burst onto the draft scene in 2019, and he’s been a key target for the Seahawks, whether it’s been Russell Wilson or Geno Smith throwing him the ball.
