Rabbitohs star Latrell Mitchell tests positive for COVID days after returning from US trip

South Sydney Rabbitohs superstar Latrell Mitchell has been dealt another setback in his bid to return, after testing positive for COVID-19 over the weekend.

The 24-year-old had spent two weeks in Philadelphia rehabbing a hamstring injury, with the fullback potentially returning as early as this weekend’s clash with the Titans.

But news broke on Monday morning that Latrell would now be sidelined for at least another week, and will be unable to train with the Rabbitohs as he isolates while battling COVID.

A short statement from the club confirmed the news regarding their marquee man.

“Rabbitohs fullback Latrell Mitchell will be unavailable for selection in round 14 having tested positive to COVID-19 on Sunday 5 June,” the statement said.

“Mitchell will not train this week as he isolates from the team.”

It’s a tough blow for Latrell, who reportedly lost 10kg during his time in America, and was closing in on a return from injury.

With the fullback to miss the State of Origin opener, Latrell had hopes of returning for Game II on June 26th, but that now appears unlikely given his latest setback.
