Cristiano Ronaldo’s relationship with Manchester United looks to be heading for an increasingly messy divorce.
Now at 37 years old, and preparing for the 2022 FIFA World Cup with Portugal — which begins on Nov. 20, Ronaldo is in the twilight of his career. He joined United for a second stint in the summer of 2021, but has played sparingly since and has not been as prolific as he once was in front of goal.
It’s been an especially tumultuous season this year for Ronaldo, whose love affair with the Old Trafford club has been strained ever since he declared he wanted to leave ahead of the 2022/23 campaign, reportedly to join a club who could offer him UEFA Champions League football.
The situation came to a head in late October, when he left a match early against Tottenham after refusing to come on as a substitute. That earned him a one-week suspension by the club.
Now, in an exclusive interview with Piers Morgan, which the British media personality says Ronaldo requested and is to be aired this week, the forward describes himself as feeling “betrayed” by Manchester United, and claims that individuals within the club are seeking to force him out.
Here’s all the information you need to know about the full explosive interview and what Ronaldo has said about Manchester United, manager Erik ten Hag and his United future. Meanwhile, the club has already issued a statement in response.

Where to watch Ronaldo’s ‘Piers Morgan Uncensored’ full interview
Piers Morgan’s interview with Cristiano Ronaldo will appear on the pundit’s show ‘Piers Morgan Uncensored’, which is on TalkTV.
The show has aired on weeknights in the U.K. since April, 2022.
What did Ronaldo say about Manchester United, Erik ten Hag?
While the full interview has not yet aired, the show has released some quotes to promote the programme.
Morgan has also produced a written version of the interview for the Sun newspaper, in which the Portugal star’s contempt for the club’s hierarchy is made explicitly clear.
In the first clip released, Ronaldo claims multiple times that he feels “betrayed” by individuals at Manchester United. He claims the coach is part of that group, and at Morgan’s prompting, also those at the “senior executive level.”
Morgan asks, “You feel like you’re being forced out?” To which Ronaldo replies, “Yes. Not only the coach, but a few other two or three guys there around the club.”
“I felt that some people don’t want me here, not only this year but last year too,” Ronaldo says shortly after.
“I feel betrayed.”

Ronaldo also had extremely harsh words for Man United boss Erik ten Hag, who took over the job this summer after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was let go.
“I don’t have respect for him because he doesn’t show respect for me,” Ronaldo said regarding Ten Hag. “If you don’t have respect for me, I’m never gonna have respect for you.”
Manchester United respond to Ronaldo
The next day (Monday, Nov. 14), Manchester United issued a statement in response to Ronaldo’s interview:

Piers Morgan’s comments on Ronaldo interview
Morgan, who has previously interviewed Ronaldo for other outlets and built a relationship with the five-time Ballon d’Or winner, would not be drawn on precisely when the interview took place.
“He felt it was time to speak out,” the 57-year-old Arsenal supporter told Talksport. “He knows it was going to be incendiary, he knows this is going to rattle some cages, but he also feels that he should be doing this.
“He knows people will criticise him but he also knows that what he’s saying is true. Sometimes the truth hurts. I think part of the timing was that the World Cup is about to start. He’s with Portugal – a good team – and he can have a good World Cup. It gives him a month away from United.
“He definitely doesn’t say to me that he’s definitely leaving. But he’s aware that by doing what he’s doing, it may mean the end of his time at Manchester United – of course he does, he’s not stupid.”
