Boxing 2023: Jeff Fenech’s protege Brock Jarvis fights back from brink of disaster, Marlon Paniamogan

Jeff Fenech’s protege Brock Jarvis has bounced back from his first career loss against Liam Paro to claim a big fourth-round TKO win over Marlon Paniamogan.

But the early finish wasn’t the whole story as Jarvis had to fight off the ropes to claim his 20th career win.

Jarvis was watchful early but landed a few strong shots in the first round.

However, the Filipino was well on top in the second after he landed a few right hands, the first of which sent Jarvis into the ropes.

While the Aussie hit back with a few solid shots of his own, Paniamogan was chasing the finish, landing some enormous blows.

“He’s hurt,” Ben Damon said in commentary for Fox Sports.

Jarvis wasn’t the only one either as Paniamogan appeared to swell dramatically from his cheek, which the commentators believed was a broken jaw.

The 25-year-old fought back to get out of the round before taking over the fight.

While Jarvis hit back through the third until he finished it late in the fourth, delivering a final left hook to the ribs that finished the fight as Paniamogan couldn’t recover.

It was an incredible comeback, particularly after he fell on his sword quickly against Paro with a first round KO during their fight last October.

Jarvis, who had both Fenech and legendary trainer Johnny Lewis in his corner, showed his toughness to claim the win.

Speaking after the fight, Jarvis admitted he was in trouble.

“We’ve been working on a few changes, I almost let it slip there,” he said.

“I’ve just got to keep working at it and go again as soon as I can.

“He caught me with a good shot and he went for it. He was a good tough opponent for me.”

Jarvis said he wanted to get another fight as soon as possible.

Fenech said it was a “special” comeback from his fighter.

“It was good having Johnny Lewis in the corner, he kept me calm, he was talking to me through it all,” Fenech said.

“Everything his opponent did today, I knew he could do and we were more than ready for. He caught us with a good shot which, that’s boxing, there’s two guys there trying to punch each other in the head. But Brock showed he has all the courage in the world and turned the fight around.
“And when you can turn a fight around like Brock does, he’s something really special.”

Fenech said he was never the same after his first loss and praised his charge for bouncing back in style.
