Dib’s shock diagnosis left the boxing community heartbroken when it was announced in October last year.
The former IBF and IBO super featherweight champion posted to social media the damning news, explaining to his followers his recent health struggles.
A defiant Dib said in a post that the disease had picked the wrong man to try and take on and now some five months on, he has stuck to his word.
In a post shared across his social media channels, Dib’s son Laith is holding a sign that reads “Hi guys, my dad is in remission.”
Dib wrote alongside the video of his dancing son: “AlhamdAllah (thanks to God), I received the most beautiful news today. My scan came back clear of cancer. I am so grateful, blessed, happy and relieved. Thank you God, my health team, my family and all of you, for your prayers, encouragement and support to help me get here.”
The incredible update swept across social media as the boxing world united as one to congratulate the former champ.
Commentator Ben Damon wrote: “Fantastic news from @BillyDib who is now cancer free!”
Boxing journalist Dan Rafael wrote: “I am thrilled for you. Wish you nothing but the best.”
Olympic boxer Tony Jefferies wrote: “Wow this is amazing, ️well done mate “
Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn wrote: “That is the greatest news Billy.”
Shortly after the news was shared to the world, countryman Tim Tszyu extended an offer to Dib to sit ringside for his fight against American Tony Harrison this weekend.
Both Tszyu and promoter No Limit have offered up the ringside tickets.
“It’s not just for Billy Dib the boxer,” Tszyu said to Fox Sports.
“It’s because of the person he is.
“Billy has such a kind heart. Has always been there to support me.
“So if he wants to come this Sunday I want to have him there.”
