Australia vs Sri Lanka | Marcus Harris dropped | Glenn Maxwell snubbed

Marcus Harris has been dumped from the Australian Test squad for the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka, while little-known Victorian spinner Todd Murphy has been named in a 16-man Australia A outfit.

Despite reports suggesting he was on the verge of a recall, there was no space for Glenn Maxwell in the 16-man Test line-up.

Josh Inglis has been named in all four squads, the Test, ODI and T20 squads, as well as Australia A, with Cricket Australia confirming some players will turn out for both Australia and Australia A during the tour.

The schedule consists of three T20 internationals, five ODIs and two Tests in June and July, while Australia A will play two one-day and four-day matches.

White ball spinner Adam Zampa will miss the tour for the birth of his first child, while Test captain Pat Cummins will be rested from the T20 matches.

“There are a several players returning to respective squads combined with an Australia A tour running in parallel to the white ball series,” said selection boss George Bailey.

“It’s incredibly exciting to have an Australia A component which offers the further flexibility and opportunity for players to be available for and cross over into all squads.

“That could be from a Test or white ball preparation perspective or an opportunity to impress at an international level.

“Those factors coupled with what we expect to be more freedom of travel means we can be very specific with our structures while continuing to develop the next generation of players.

“This is the first time a tour of this scale has been possible since the Ashes in 2019.”

Murphy, an off-spinner from Victoria, has played just two Sheffield Shield matches, and his selection in the Australia A squad at the age of 21 is a sign that selectors are beginning to plan for a future beyond Nathan Lyon.
