Ange Postecoglou linked with Tottenham: Celtic coach refuses to entertain speculation

Ange Postecoglou says links with the Tottenham managerial role are ‘not of interest’ as he is focused on Celtic winning the treble.

The Australian is on Spurs’ shortlist to replace Antonio Conte at the end of the season, according to The Telegraph, with the Italian looking increasingly unlikely to be in charge next campaign.

Postecoglou has enjoyed great success at Parkhead since arriving at the start of the 2021-22 season, winning the league title back off Rangers and claiming back-to-back Scottish League Cups.

Celtic chasing a treble of Scottish trophies this season, have already won the League Cup, are nine points clear of Rangers in the league and are currently preparing for a Scottish Cup quarter-final against Hearts on Saturday.

When asked about links to the Tottenham job, Postecoglou brushed off the speculation, insisting he is solely focusing on Celtic matters.

“It’s not of interest to me,” Postecoglou said in his pre-match press conference prior to the Hearts contest.

“I don’t wake up and get an early briefing on the latest gossip. The rest of it doesn’t mean anything to me. It doesn’t affect me or the people around me.

“Like most things, people want to have something to talk about.”

Celtic, who have lost one match domestically this season, just managed to beat Hearts 4-3 in their last trip to Edinburgh.

And Postecoglou feels like a cup match is significantly different to the league, with the added extra factor of being on the road.

“It’s a cup game, a different beast to the league,” he said. “Cup games always have a different nature and playing away is different.

“Both clubs know it’s either progression or you’re out. That always means games are a bit edgier. Teams hang in there because they don’t want to let go of that opportunity.

“We have been consistent for a very long time performance and results-wise and it’s because the lads show a strong mindset on a daily basis so, when game time comes around, it’s part of who they are and part of what they do.”

After the Hearts cup match, Celtic’s next league game will be on Saturday, March 18 at home against Hibernian.
